‘If Pogba is worth £86m, Aubameyang should cost £40m more’

Borussia Dortmund could demand £126million for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang given Manchester United paid £86m for Paul Pogba, according to Lothar Matthaus.

Aubameyang has been linked with a plethora of clubs over the past 12 months, with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal heavily linked to his signature. But having seen their transfer window ban halved by CAS, the striker is expected to move to Real Madrid in the summer.

Aubameyang has scored 16 goals in 15 games so far and leads the Bundesliga scoring charts by four goals.

The Gabon international also has four goals in five Champions League games for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who face Benfica in the knock-out rounds.

But with Dortmund struggling in the Bundesliga – they are fourth, nine points adrift of both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig – it is believed that Aubameyang could leave in the summer.

The 27-year-old has confirmed his desire to join Real Madrid at some point in his career, and Germany legend Matthaus says that Dortmund could demand a world-record fee for the striker.

According to Matthaus, Aubameyang is worth at least £40m more than Manchester United midfielder Pogba because the Frenchman “does not” make the difference that the striker does.

“If a player like Pogba costs €105million, Dortmund would have to get €150m for Aubameyang,” Matthaus told Bild.

“He is a player who makes the difference. Pogba does not.”
