Arsenal have joined the race to sign Napoli centre-back Nikola Maksimovic according to reports from Italy.
According to Football Italia, the Serbian defender is the subject of interest from both the Gunners and Inter Milan.
Arsene Wenger is apparently eyeing defensive cover following an injury to Shkodran Mustafi, after the German international tore his thigh muscle during the international break.
The 25-year-old joined Napoli on loan from Torino last season and the deal was made permanent in the summer for €25 million.
However, Maksimovic has made just 14 appearances for Napoli since his move last season, with speculation surrounding a possible exit now rife.
Arsenal are looking for a new defender after selling Gabriel Paulista, and while Calum Chambers is a current back-up option, Wenger may also have an eye on both Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker who are both not getting any younger and could leave them light at the back with a possible injury.
