Jose Mourinho: Ready for Boro

Jose Mourinho has again hinted at a quiet January and admits he wants “to raise pounds” this month in order to spend big with Manchester United in the summer.

United have been linked with a number of players in the winter transfer window, with boosting their options in central defence – Victor LindelofKostas Manolas and Jose Fonte have all benn linked – their only first-team priority.

However, it is believed that the club are more keen to offload a number of unwanted squad players, starting with Everton-bound Morgan Schneiderlin.

United are far more likely to strengthen in the summer, with Mourinho looking to build on recent improvements which have brought about a nine-game winning run.

They spent over £150million last summer, bringing in Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Mourinho has confirmed that he plans to oversee a similar spending spree at the end of this season.

“I am convinced that in this winter market we will be sellers and not buyers,” he told Sport TV. “We want to raise pounds to attack in the summer, as we did this year by signing four players.”
