Adnan Januzaj is set to return to Manchester United after Louis van Gaal asked the forward to terminate his loan at Borussia Dortmund early.
In November, Van Gaal revealed he warned Januzaj against moving to Dortmund in the summer but the 20-year-old ignored the Dutchman’s advice and joined the German outfit on a season-long loan.
Januzaj has since struggled to break into Dortmund’s first-team, failing to start a single Bundesliga fixture and has only played a total of 160 minutes in six substitute league appearances.
The two clubs have now entered talks to cut short the loan agreement, after Van Gaal became concerned at the youngster’s lack of game time.
However, the Belgium international will still face a fight for regular appearances at Old Trafford, where he is yet to convince United manager Van Gaal.
Januzaj was one of the few positives to come out of David Moyes spell in charge of the Red Devils, scoring twice on his full league debut at Sunderland in 2013 – a season in which he made 35 appearances for United.
Since Van Gaal replaced Moyes, he has only been used sporadically and is now struggling to make Marc Wilmots squad for Euro 2016.
