Jones: Plenty still to do

Ander Herrera netted twice, and Wayne Rooney once, as United beat a spirited Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The win takes them eight points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool as they remain in the hunt – along with Arsenal and Manchester City – to finish second, although boss Louis van Gaal believes they are still in the title race.

Jones said of the Villa game: “It was a big win especially when you have players coming back from international duty on Thursday and Friday.

“It was difficult for them and everyone played well and we deserved the win. It’s a nice feeling to be winning and playing well consistently but we’ve got some massive games coming up and next Sunday’s derby is one of them.”

Looking ahead to the match against Manchester City, Jones added: “It’s always a great game. Those are the games you want to be playing in as a player and we’ll look forward to that one.

“We need to make sure we finish in that top four but it’s not going to be easy. We know we have some tough games between now and the end of the season and we need to be ready for them.”

And team-mate Daley Blind also has next week’s match firmly on his mind, saying: “Every game is huge in the Premier League but derbies are always something special so I am looking forward to this one.”
