Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has spoken out about the recent transfer speculation regarding Brazil star Neymar.
Neymar has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford in the last week after reports Barcelona were lining up a replacement for Neymar.
Both the Spanish and English press claim United are prepared to meet the 25-year-old’s huge £173million release clause, but Mourinho has cooled the talk.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Mourinho said: “I always try to be objective and pragmatic with the clubs and ask the clubs for what can be given to me.
“Neymar is absurd. A club like Barcelona cannot and will not lose Neymar.
“Although [Lionel] Messi is still a young player with years to go – he is still playing well at the age of 30 – but Neymar will be Barcelona’s great player after Messi.
“We will not break into the vault. I think it is impossible.”
Neymar, who was approached by United last summer, has scored 99 goals in 172 appearances for Barcelona since making his debut for the Catalan giants in 2013.
And last week he spoke of his desire to one day play in England.
“The Premier League is a championship that amazes me,” Neymar said.
“I like the playing style and the teams. And who knows, someday, I would like to play at it, yes.
“I admire Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool — these are the teams that are always there fighting.”
