Jurgen Klopp is reportedly closing in on his first signing as Liverpool manager after holding positive talks with Red Star Belgrade’s teenage midfielder Marko Grujic.
The 19-year-old talent is set to leave the Serbian club next month, with the Reds and Inter Milan frontrunners to sign the player, who has been closely analysed by scouts of several leading European clubs.
The player held talks at Melwood last week and reports on Tuesday suggest the player favours the move to Anfield after admitting his admiration for Klopp and his history of giving young talent a chance to shine, while Grujic has also previously spoken of his wish to test himself in the Premier League.
“I would like to go and play in England,” he is quoted as saying.
“I love the atmosphere in the stadium, and how the fans are close to the pitch, and how that energy transfers to the players.”
Red Star reportedly want in the region of £5million for their midfield enforcer, and while it’s understood Liverpool have yet to table an official offer, the asking price is unlikely to deter the club.
