Jurgen Klopp admits there is a real prospect captain Jordan Henderson will not play again this season.
Henderson, 26, injured his foot in training at the end of February and although the foot was immediately x-rayed and no break detected, the influential Liverpool midfielder has not kicked a ball since.
The England man has missed almost two months and eight games and asked whether that was the end of the former Sunderland man’s season, Klopp was not too optimistic.
“I don’t know, we will see,” said Klopp.
“At this moment he cannot really train so we have to wait for this, that was the plan from the beginning.
“We are in intense talks with different medical departments but we have to wait. He is already not patient any more.
“He looks really healthy but he cannot play football and that is the situation at the moment. If something changes we can talk about it.”
Henderson has suffered historically with foot and heel problems and missed 20 games in 2015 down to both injuries.
Liverpool face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday and then will have only four games remaining, bringing the curtain down on their season in month’s time against Middlesbrough at Anfield.
