Klopp discusses how Liverpool will persuade top targets to sign

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes he will still land his top transfer targets this summer – even in the worst-case scenario of failing to secure Champions League football.

A failure to gather as many points as Arsenal on Sunday, when the Reds host relegated Middlesbrough, would see them drop out of the top four and fall at the final hurdle. Arsenal play Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

While Klopp admits a return to Europe’s elite club competition helps in recruitment, he is confident Liverpool can still attract top quality signings.

“Even from outside Liverpool always looked a massive club,” Klopp said.

“Chelsea has the money, Man City is now coming up – wonderful players, big signings – Man United is Man United, but we are a really interesting project.

“Everyone can see from outside. The mood is different, a few people are different, but the base is there.

“It is still the power and size of this club and then the perspective and that has changed, we feel it in the talks (with players).

“They have to see it, they have to feel it and they have to make a decision.

“We’ve made a decision before we go into the talks, of course, because that is always how it is because you commit 100 per cent.

“Plan A player says, ‘Aaah, sounds all good but..’, Player B you are not sure and Player C you have to decide when Player A and Player B are not there.

“That is really difficult but the players are really positive this year compared to last year because they have seen our way, our football and that is good.”

Klopp on Firmino fitness

Klopp remains hopeful forward Roberto Firmino will recover from the muscle problem which forced him to miss last weekend’s emphatic win at West Ham in order to face Middlesbrough at Anfield on the final day of the season.

“We could not decide until now, but he feels good and he feels comfortable,” Klopp said.

“He did a lot of things, but was not part of team training. That’s not a problem after this long season.

“In this moment, I would rather say ‘Yes’ than ‘Perhaps’, but I am not sure.”
