Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reported to have met with the agent of Granit Xhaka, ahead of a possible summer swoop for the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.
German newspaper Bild claims that defensive midfielder Xhaka has emerged as Klopp’s number one target for the summer and met with the Swiss midfielder’s agent, Andy Gross, last December.
The report claims the Reds manager sees Xhaka as the kind of key player the Merseyside giants need in midfield – an “aggressive leader”.
Xhaka is contracted to Borussia Monchengladbach until June 2019, but reports suggest he has a clause in his contract that allows his sale for 30million euros from 2017 .
Bild, however, claims that Monchengladbach are to negotiate the sale of Xhaka this summer, with a number of Premier League sides reported to be weighing up moves for the player.
Besides Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with Xhaka, who is expected to impress at this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France.
