Klopp: Poor defending cost us dear against the Swans

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has blamed his side’s bad defending for the 3-2 loss against Swansea and says they only have themselves to blame.

After a goalless first half, Fernando Llorente scored twice early in the second to put Swansea in command of the tie before two super goals from Roberto Firmino drew the Reds level.

With 20 minutes still left on the clock it looked as though Liverpool would have momentum to go on to victory but Gylfi Sigurdsson grabbed all three points for Swansea on 74 minutes.

“For the first half, you could hear it in the stadium,” Klopp said after the game.

“I don’t want to speak about the mistakes for the header but we should have avoided the pass and the cross.

“Our reaction was very good [to the two goals], but nearly everything was wrong in the third goal.

“The defending around all three goals today was not good enough – 100 per cent.

“It’s our mistake – nobody else but ours. We have to show a reaction now.”
