Jurgen Klopp has revealed he will be without two important members of the Liverpool squad for their New Year’s Eve clash against Man City.
The German had recently suggested that Philippe Coutinho could have been fit enough to feature on the bench for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side, but Klopp has put back the Brazilian’s eagerly anticipated return for at least another week.
“The City game, for sure, too early – and pretty sure the Sunderland game is too early, too,” Klopp told reporters.
That means Coutinho’s next potential return date is the FA Cup third-round clash against Plymouth on January 8.
Klopp also said that centre-back Joel Matip would also not be available for selection as two of the Premier League’s highest scorers go head-to-head on Merseyside.
