Jurgen Klopp says illness was behind Philippe Coutinho’s withdrawal against Bournemouth, but he doesn’t expect it to keep him out long.
The Brazilian left the action early as Liverpool conceded late to be held to a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at Anfield on Wednesday.
However, Klopp has moved to reassure supporters over Coutinho, hinting that he may well be available again for the Reds’ next game – against Stoke on Saturday.
“We had to change Phil because he felt sick at half-time,” Klopp told reporters.
“There’s no joy in taking off your best player on the pitch, and the decision was go three at the back and allow the fullbacks to use space on the wings. He said after the match he feels better now, so that’s good.”
On the game itself, Klopp admitted: “The start was not the best.
“We were a little late in the mind, not really concentrated and there were three, four situations before their goal we were not on. Simon’s dribbling, Ragnar’s pass. You could feel a nervousness in the stadium.”
