Luis Alberto could remain part of Liverpool’s first-team picture next season amid claims Jurgen Klopp has been impressed by the midfielder’s efforts in La Liga.
He might be Liverpool’s ultimate forgotten man, but the Liverpool Echo claims Klopp is keen to take a look at the Spaniard over pre-season and could usher him back into their first-team reckoning should he impress.
The Spaniard contributed 13 goals and assists in La Liga for Deportivo last season, but has returned to England after his loan spell ended.
Despite widespread reports that Liverpool are looking to sell Alberto for a fee of around £4.5million, the paper reports that the club would be happy to let the midfielder fight for his place in the first team if no move materialises.
Alberto’s agent has also spoken to Marca about his client’s future.
“He belongs to Liverpool and has to return,” Alvaro Torres said. “We have already been informed that he will attend the pre-season with Liverpool.
“During the transfer market in May, we know little. The first thing is to talk with Liverpool and see what opinion they have on Alberto.”
