Jurgen Klopp was impressed with Liverpool’s attacking threat in their 4-3 victory over Arsenal but wants his team to defend better over the 90 minutes in future matches.
Two goals from Philippe Coutinho, one from Adam Lallana and another from new signing Sadio Mane secured the win for Klopp’s team, although Arsenal’s late comeback gave the German some food for thought.
Overall, the 49-year-old was pleased with the three points and thought his side were good value against Arsene Wenger’s men.
“Over the whole 90 minutes it’s a deserved win. It will always be difficult winning in London against Arsenal,” said Klopp.
When asked what encouraged him the most for the season ahead, Klopp answered: “Staying in the game. It looked like after half an hour at 1-0 to Arsenal, it’s very warm, it’s the first game, it looked a little like not a Liverpool day.
“Then we strike back and that’s very, very important. And, of course, then the kind of defending we showed in the last ten minutes.”
Despite conceding three against the Gunners, the former Borussia Dortmund was upbeat about how threatening the team looked going forward.
“We can score goals, we can always score goals, but we can defend much better and that’s what we have to do. We know when we defend better that we are still a threat for the opponent and that’s good news.”
