Jurgen Klopp know how Liverpool need to play against Manchester United and is looking forward to “one of the best things in football you can do” as a manager.
Liverpool go to Old Trafford on Thursday night looking to defend the 2-0 lead they claimed in the first leg of the Europa League last-16 tie at Anfield a week ago.
“I am absolutely optimistic. I always have the best feelings before the game!” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.
“Since I have been here, this is the third time we play United, and we have always been in the game in all three games. The world doesn’t change overnight.
“There is a chance for United, 100%, but we know that we know how to play them.
“That doesn’t mean it is easy. We have to be brave, concentrated, aggressive in a legal way. That is all clear.
“I don’t think too much about what will happen. We have time to prepare. Tomorrow is Man United day, with training and the meeting and the game. At the end we will be prepared.”
Despite Klopp’s confidence, he acknowledges United are likely to cause his side more problems than they did on Merseyside.
“We know about the job we have to do,” he said. “It’s difficult of course, but the circumstances are different. I can hear it in your questions. You all ask whether United can strike back.
“We are 2-0 in the lead, but that is only one thing. We have to forget this and play again. It’s a football game. I am really excited.
“There are a lot of things we don’t know. Maybe United take maximum risk from the first second, but Louis van Gaal is very experienced. He will have a plan.
“A good start is important, but there are other things. We need to play similar or more intensive, like we did at Anfield.
“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s one of the best things in football you can do, to play Manchester United when manager of Liverpool.”
