Ronald Koeman wants to make Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin his first signing as Everton manager, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Koeman apparently wants to sign at least one central midfielder this summer, with 35-year-old Gareth Barry approaching the end of his career and other players failing to convince.
Top of the Dutchman’s list of targets is Schneiderlin, who he worked with for a season at Southampton and sees as the perfect player to protect a back four that was breached far too often last season.
Schneiderlin only joined Manchester United last summer, but the 26-year-old could soon find himself surplus to requirements with Jose Mourinho on the lookout for a new powerful midfielder.
Koeman would gladly commit to spending £20million on Schneiderlin, it is said, and also wants to sign a goalkeeper, winger and possibly a second new midfielder.
The Daily Star Sunday, meanwhile, says the Toffees will pay £18million to sign Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar, 24, from Porto.
