New York City FC have confirmed the former West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester City player has not travelled with the team for the match against the New England Revolution.
Lampard injured his calf in training earlier this month, forcing him out of last week’s match against Toronto FC.
The knock is not yet fully healed and New York City’s technical staff are keen to avoid the risk of extending the midfielder’s injury.
Lampard did start training again earlier in the week, and the club are hopeful he will finally be available for selection for next week’s game against Orlando City.
If that is the case, both Lampard and fellow new arrival Andrea Pirlo could make their MLS debuts on the same day.
