Liverpool fans have voted Philippe Coutinho ahead of James Milner as their Player of the Season for 2015-16.
Liverpool fans have endured something of a roller-coaster ride this season, with the team under-performing in the Premier League but gradually improving since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp and making it to the semi-final stage of the Europa League in a most exciting manner.
Lots of squad members have stepped up to the plate, putting in some splendid performances. Supporters were asked to vote for who they thought was the best Liverpool player so far this season in a 90min poll, and over 29,000 threw in their two cents (or pence).
Coutinho won overwhelmingly, snagging 51 percent of the votes. Milner came in second place with only 19 percent, while Germany midfielder Emre Can took 12 percent.
Divock Origi, who was a bright spark up front for the club before his injury, got nine percent, with Roberto Firmino getting the very same amount.
Coutinho was recently named in French magazine France Football’s under-23 European Team of the Season, alongside Juventus’ Paul Pogba and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti in a three-man midfield. He has contributed 12 goals and six assists this campaign.
The Brazilian is the supporters’ player of the season and will hope to win the official award, too. Next season he will be out to challenge for top team honours under Klopp.
