League leaders Leicester not tempting fate, says King

Andy King: Leicester not getting carried away

Leicester City midfielder Andy King has said the Foxes are staying grounded despite opening up an sizeable advantage at the top of the table.

The mood had changed before Sunday’s clash with Swansea, with last weekend’s frantic 2-2 draw with West Ham compounded by the suspension of top scorer Jamie Vardy and an impressive win by rivals Tottenham at Stoke.

However, Claudio Ranieri’s men gave short shrift to predictions they could be usurped as they maintained their charge for the most unlikely of titles, trouncing their Welsh visitors 4-0 at the King Power Stadium.

A maximum of five points is all that is required to wrap up the Premier League, with trips to 20-time league winners Manchester United and reigning champions Chelsea coming either side of a home clash with Everton.

“We have three cup finals left now,” long-serving midfielder King said.

“This win was good for the confidence going into three of the biggest games the club has ever played.

“It would be massive but we don’t want to speak about anything like that until we have crossed the line because we have three huge games coming up. We don’t want to tempt fate.

“We know we have to take care of our own games and then cross that bridge when we come to it.

“We knew Swansea were a good team and can dominate teams with the way they play, but it was important for us to make sure that wasn’t the case.

“We pressed them well and once we scored the second we took it away from them. It is a massive three points for us and a convincing victory.”

Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring just hours before being crowned PFA Player of the Year, with substitute Marc Albrighton completing a rout in which Leonardo Ulloa netted twice.

The Argentinian performed manfully in place of suspended England international Vardy.

“It was brilliant for Leo to come in and not only play well but score two goals as well,” King said.

“It is massive for him and for us. If we hadn’t won, everyone would have said we missed Vards.

“There is no doubt about it Vards was a big loss for us because the way he has played this season has been outstanding, but we showed the strength in depth we had today.

“Everyone is buzzing for Leo, Vards included.”
