Leicester City are lining up Watford captain Troy Deeney as a potential replacement for Arsenal target Jamie Vardy, according to reports.
Arsenal are currently in talks with Vardy after activating the striker’s £20million release clause, although Leicester still harbour hopes of convincing the England international to stay at the King Power Stadium.
According to both the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror, Claudio Ranieri was hoping to bolster his forward line with the signing of Deeney regardless of whether Vardy leaves or not, but his desire to land the 27-year-old will only strengthen should the Foxes lose one of their stars.
Deeney, who could cost around £15million, is understood to be happy at Vicarage Road, but the lure of Champions League football with the reigning Premier League champions could prove to hard to turn down.
The striker has previously been linked with Arsenal himself, but it appears Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has prioritised a forward who offers an alternative skill set to Olivier Giroud.
