Robert Lewandowski is reported to be considering his future at Bayern Munich, putting Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea on alert.
Lewandowski was linked with a move to the Premier League before joining Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, and the 27-year-old now ‘wants to experience a new league while he is in the prime of his career’, according to the Independent on Sunday.
Real Madrid and Barcelona would also be interested in a player who, under contract until 2019, would command a fee in excess of £70million, but the top English clubs ‘are likely to get involved in an auction’, it is suggested, enriched by the money from the forthcoming lucrative TV deal.
Pep Guardiola is set to move to England in the summer, but the newspaper says Lewandowski’s desire to leave Bayern is not linked to his manager’s pending exit.
However, whoever appoints Guardiola would likely be made the favourites to land Lewandowski.
