Hull midfielder Jake Livermore is the most high-profile of a number of players to fail drug tests recently.

And chief executive Scudamore says there is only so far the Premier League can go to protect players from anti-doping laws.

He said: “The anti-doping testing is as good as it can be and hence it’s been caught. It should send out a very strong message saying you absolutely will get caught if you indulge in these practices.

“We’re doing as much as we can through the academies and the education of young players, but ultimately it does come down to individual responsibility.”

Hull boss Steve Bruce last week said Livermore is “in a dark place” as he awaits the result of his B sample.
