Klopp makes huge claim over multi-talented Liverpool squad

Jurgen Klopp believes the current Liverpool squad he has at his disposal is the strongest he has ever managed during his career.

And the German admits some very talented players are struggling to make his matchday squads such is the level of talent at the manager’s disposal, with the Reds eclipsing the squads he had at Borussia Dortmund, who won two Bundesliga titles and reached the Champions League final.

The recent 5-0 thumping of Porto saw Dominic Solanke, Ragnar Klavan and Ben Woodburn fail to make the bench, despite Klopp having Emre Can missing through suspension and Nathaniel Clyne out injured.

Woodburn, 18, is widely regarded as one of the best young players in the Premier League, but the Wales star has appeared just once for the first team this season after breaking through last term.

Klopp says the youngster is close to getting game time, but such is the strength in his squad, he simply has too many options.

“It’s really hard in the moment to make the squad,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Wow, I’ve never had a situation like that with the quality of the players not being in the squad.

“They all have made really big steps. Dom Solanke was not in the squad but is in outstanding shape at the moment. Ragnar Klavan, unbelievable. Ben Woodburn makes steps and is really close to everything.

“It’s difficult, it’s getting more and more difficult, but that’s good for us of course.”
