Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that star winger Mohamed Salah will have a well-earned day off on Wednesday.
The Reds were 5-0 up on aggregate in their Round of 16 clash against Porto, but Klopp brought his top scorer brought off the bench for a late cameo.
It may have been a surprise for some considering Saturday’s huge trip to rivals Manchester United, but the German says it was all part of the plan.
“It is normal. Everyone thinks about injuries but that can happen all the time,” Klopp said.
“Now we thought we give him, if possible, the last 20. If it is 15 he trains again tomorrow.
“I told him if he really runs a lot he does not have to train tomorrow so I thought he was quite lively.”
Klopp also insisted that the injury to captain Jordan Henderson is not serious, after the midfielder left the field with an ice park on his thigh.
“Dead leg. Just painful enough but not a problem,” he said.
The former Dortmund boss also claims that full-back Andrew Robertson picked up a knock but nothing serious, and discussed the importance of Saturday’s game.
“Robertson had an issue but not big,” Klopp added.
“It was not about rotation tonight, only about the next line-up. It was not too intense for Sadio (Mane) even though he was lively.
“It was very important for Adam (Lallana), getting used to the rhythm, and for Ingsy (Danny Ings) to get a few minutes.
“Joe Gomez playing after a few weeks was also important. Now we can prepare for the Manchester game and I am looking forward to it.”
