Liverpool, Bournemouth stars added to England squad v Brazil

Dominic Solanke and Lewis Cook have been added to Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of Tuesday’s friendly clash with Brazil.

The pair will join goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who was called up on Friday as a replacement for injured Stoke stopper Jack Butland.

The trio all played in Friday night’s Under-21 international against Ukraine in Kiev, and returned to England to join the senior squad on Saturday evening.

Liverpool frontman Solanke and Bournemouth midfielder Cook were both members of England’s Under-20 which won the World Cup earlier this year.

Solanke has so far appeared in seven Premier League games this season, while Cook, who was skipper as England’s U-20’s claimed world glory, has played just for times for the Cherries.

Cook‏ tweeted on Saturday: “Incredibly honoured and proud to be called up for England senior squad. Huge achievement for me and my family.”

As for Gunn, he is currently on loan at Championship side Norwich from Manchester City, and has represented England at five different age-group levels.

Meanwhile, Phil Jones has been ruled out of the game against the mighty Brazil at Wembley after being substituted with a thigh injury against Germany on Friday night.

Updated England squad for Brazil: Tammy Abraham, Ryan Bertrand, Gary Cahill, Lewis Cook, Jack Cork, Eric Dier, Joe Gomez, Angus Gunn, Joe Hart, Michael Keane, Jesse Lingard, Jake Livermore, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Harry Maguire, Jordan Pickford, Marcus Rashford, Danny Rose, Dominic Solanke, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Jamie Vardy, Kyle Walker, Ashley Young.
