Ian Ayre will leave Liverpool at the end of the season to become general manager of TSV 1860 Munich.
Liverpool chief executive Ayre has been headhunted by Jordanian businessman Hasan Ismaik to help the club return to the Bundesliga for the first time since 2004.
Ayre had already announced his intention to leave Anfield once his contract expires next summer.
“We want to get the best people to help us,” Ismaik told Bavarian newspaper Munchner Merkur.
“Peter Cassalette (club president) and I have led the conversations with him. He is the right person for our future.
“The fact that we were able to convince such a big name to come from a world association to 1860, we are proud. That was not easy,
“When he found out about the tradition of the club, he was very enthusiastic.”
