Liverpool’s hopes of signing Alex Teixeira this month appear to be over after they failed to agree a fee with Shakhtar Donetsk for the Brazilian.
Ian Ayre met with Shakhtar officials in Orlando last week in a bid to thrash out a deal for Teixeira, but the Reds have since had two offers rejected by the Ukrainian club, the second of which was reportedly worth £28million.
According to Sky Sports, Teixeira is now unlikely to move to Anfield this month, with Shakhtar still refusing to budge on their £35million valuation of the 26-year-old.
Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu told FourFourTwo earlier this week: “He’s worth €50million.
“He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint-Germain.
“Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.”
