Gerrard verdict

One of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He scored in finals. Istanbul will be the highlight where he also played at right-back to mark Serginho. He could tackle, he was an excellent passer, he could head, he could run with the ball and that’s why I think he was better than Scholes and Lampard.

2005 was when he started to add more goals to his game and was excellent up until 2009. He wasn’t as good for England though and he will be disappointed he didn’t win the league. He didn’t always have the players around him particularly from 2010 to 2015 apart from when we finished second in 2014. I don’t think he’s quite up there with guys like Schweinsteiger, Pirlo, Zidane, Iniesta, Xavi, but is a Premier League great.

Double contract boost for Blues

Diego Costa: In line for new deal

My view is that Costa has been giving positive signs since Conte has arrived at the club. He seems to be more focused at the moment. The fighting and provoking opponents are in the past now.
I won’t be surprised if he signs a contract extension – he seems so happy at the club now.

Courtois has also been talking more positively about the club’s progress in the last few weeks. He also praised Conte and said Conte is one of the reasons that he wants to be in this club.

I would be delighted if these two and Hazard sign new deals. Plus Matic who will have only 18 months in his contract in the summer.

Targets for Liverpool?

Thomas Lemar: Subject of transfer tug-of-war

When we were 1st linked with this chap, I paid as much attention as any youtube compilation reviewer. However, I watched both Monaco’s games against The Spurs and my my…this kid is quality. Very much like Bayern’s Douglas Costa but Lemar seems to be able to play right across the front 3. Hope he’s on Klopp’s radar.

In 2013/14, we lost Henderson for our last few games and had to call upon our reserves. I see similar issue in our defence, Matip is our key defender, we need to get another tall and strong defender to play alongside him as most teams are going to go for the long balls so as to get pass our high pressing. Lorven needs someone to challenge him to improve further, especially his heading. Could you imagine us without Matip for our last few games if we are still in a shout of the title?

Derby jitters for Spurs

tottenham

Can’t say I’m overly looking forward to it, best we can hope for is a draw I think. Even a poor Chelsea team last season raised their game against us and this year they are playing very well indeed, can imagine them raising it another notch too.

Where do we start? I think it has to be three at the back like the Arsenal game: Dier, Jan, Wimmer. Wing backs: Walker and Trippier – imagine seeing Rose and Davies both out.

If four at the back I would go: Walker, Wimmer, Jan, Trippier, and push Dier into his better position of holding midfielder. Dier with Wanyama and Dembele further up the pitch behind Kane. Alli doesn’t look fully fit, hopefully Lamela maybe back.

Come on Spurs
