Liverpool are reported to be in talks with Borussia Dortmund over Neven Subotic as Jurgen Klopp seeks to shore up his injury-hit defence.
Liverpool are facing a crisis at the back after Dejan Lovren suffered a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Stoke City and joined Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez on the sidelines.
The Reds in negotiations with Aston Villa to cut short the loan deal of Tiago Ilori, but Klopp is keen to add an experienced centre-back to his squad too with the Portuguese youngster yet to make a Premier League appearance.
A loan move is most likely, according to the Liverpool Echo, with the Daily Mirror claiming talks are ongoing with Dortmund over Subotic, who Klopp took to Dortmund from Mainz.
The 27-year-old, who has 36 caps for Serbia, signed a new contract at Dortmund in May to keep him at Westfalenstadion until the end of the 2017-18 season.
Liverpool have also been linked with Inter Milan’s Andrea Ranocchia and Schalke’s Joel Matip, with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claiming the Reds have now made a €9million offer for Ranocchia.
Matip is out of the contract in the summer, but Liverpool are also said to have held talks over the possibility of getting the 24-year-old now in a cut-price deal.
