Liverpool have made a €12million bid for Piotr Zielinski but Napoli are also keen on the Udinese star, according to reports.
Sky Sports Italia report that Liverpool have made the offer for Zielinski and that he is keen to join up with Jurgen Klopp, but talks are ongoing with Udinese with Serie A side Napoli keen.
Liverpool have been tracking the Polish midfielder’s services since January with the player revealing he had been in contact with Klopp over a potential switch to the Premier League.
He told Sportowe Fakty in April: “There is a lot of truth in (talk of) the interest of (Liverpool boss) Jurgen Klopp in me.
“There was contact, I do not deny that.”
Liverpool could still be pipped to the post for the 22-year-old with Napoli able to offer the player Champions League football next season and if the Naples club can strike a deal with Udinese then Zielinski could head to the south of the country.
Zielinski has spent the last two seasons on loan at Empoli from Udinese, establishing himself as a key first-team member, making 35 appearances, scoring five goals. And he seems certain to move on this summer and follow in the footsteps of Alexis Sanchez, Samir Handanovic and Mehdi Benatia, who were all sold on by Udinese for large profits.
In March he claimed Liverpool’s interest was more than just talk and the 15-cap Poland star, who is part of their squad at Euro 2016, revealed he was aiming to impress with Empoli to earn a summer transfer.
“Some people may think it’s only rumours but I know something more about it,” Zielinski told Futbolfejs.
“I am working hard with Empoli so that in June I may have a chance [to make] such a big transfer.”
Klopp has brought in goalkeeper Loris Karius, defender Joel Matip and midfielder Marko Grujic and he is all set for a busy summer adding to his squad at Anfield.
