Liverpool are prepared to pay £25m for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, 29, this summer, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly making the striker his top summer priority.
According to the Daily Star on Sunday, Liverpool see Vardy, 29, as a modern-day Ian Rush, the legendary Reds striker who is now an Anfield ambassador.
It’s claimed Klopp is a huge admirer of the Foxes striker and believes his pace, work rate and goalscoring instinct make him ideally suited to the Gegenpressing style of football he is trying to introduce at Anfield.
A source close to the situation reportedly told the Daily Star Sunday: “Vardy is the right fit for Liverpool.
“He would suit their high-intensity game under Klopp, he runs the channels and he’s now demonstrated his goalscoring ability at the highest level.
“As a result of his success this season, all the big clubs are looking at him.
“But Liverpool look to be the favourites – if he decides to leave Leicester.”
The Foxes will fight to keep Vardy and will offer him a new contract which will double his current £45,000-a-week deal.
And he could yet opt to remain at the King Power Stadium, with the club currently looking more likely to offer the lure of Champions League football next season.
But it is clear Vardy will have a big decision to make on his future in the coming months.
