Liverpool ratings v Man Utd: Coutinho sparkles, plus surprise standout

We rate the Liverpool players following the 0-0 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated the second period but chances were few and fair between as a determined United side held out for a point.

LIVERPOOL:

Simon Mignolet: Not a great deal to do but produced a decent stop to deny Lukaku in the first half. 6 out of 10

Joe Gomez: Had arguably his best game in a Liverpool shirt. Got forward well and defended strongly throughout. 8

Joel Matip: Solid display from the German as United hardly had a sniff. 6

Dejan Lovren: Stood up well to Lukaku and hardly let the big Belgian have a kick. 7

Alberto Moreno: More like the Moreno that first arrived at Anfield, up and down the left flank all game. 7

Jordan Henderson: A typical Henderson display, all action but not a great deal of end product. 6

Emre Can: Worked hard but missed a great chance in the second period. 6

Georginio Wijnaldum: The most progressive of the midfield three and looked to get in the box. 6

Philippe Coutinho: Got better as the match went on and was dominating proceedings before being subbed. 8

Mo Salah: Was excellent in the first half but faded, probably due to his midweek heroics for Egypt. 7

Roberto Firmino: Still not quite at his best and was in and out of the game. 6

Substitutes:

Daniel Sturridge (on for Coutinho, 79): Hardly a touch as United ground out the draw in the closing stages. 6

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (on for Salah, 79): Looked lively when he came and maybe should have come on earlier. 6

Dominic Solanke (on for Firmino, 87): Hardly any time to make an impact. 6
