Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius is expected to complete a £4.7million move to Liverpool as early as next week, according to reports.
Klopp is intent on making changes to the Liverpool squad this summer and he wants the 22-year-old goalkeeper to increase competition with Simon Mignolet for next season. Mignolet, who in January signed a new deal until 2021, has been criticised for his displays this season and Klopp is eager to get some top-level competition for the Belgian with third-choice keeper Adam Bogdan set to move on.
Both the Guardian and Express report that a deal for Karius is close, with the former claiming “talks between the two clubs have progressed in recent days” and that the former Manchester City junior will arrive at Anfield next week.
The Express report Karius “will rival Simon Mignolet and Liverpool remain intent on prising Mario Gotze from Bayern Munich”.
Karius, who was linked with Arsenal last year, was believed to have a £7.9m release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga side, as reported by German publication Kicker earlier this week.
But it now appears that a fee closer to £5million will be enough to secure the services of a player, who only extended his contract in January until 2018.
Karius, who is yet to receive a full international cap for Germany, has made 36 appearances for Mainz this season, keeping 10 clean sheets.
