Liverpool could break the £100million barrier for players sold this summer – with Joe Allen’s sale to Stoke expected to trigger a raft of departures from Anfield.
The Reds have already sold Jordon Ibe to Bournemouth for £15m and he is soon expected to be joined by Brad Smith, with the full-back on the verge of a £6million switch to the south coast.
Ibe, Allen and Smith’s moves take the total number of players Liverpool have sold this summer to seven, following on Joao Carlos Teixeira, Sergi Canos, Martin Skrtel, Jerome Sinclair, with the current accumulative standing at £50m.
However, that figure is expected to dramatically rise with Crystal Palace prepared to pay £30million for Christian Benteke. The Belgium international has indicated he wants to stay but it is understood Palace will return with another offer.
But with Lazar Markovic, Luis Alberto, Andre Wisdom, Mario Balotelli and possibly Mamadou Sakho set to depart, there is potential for Liverpool to set a new record in terms of money brought in for one window.
The most successful window for sales was in 2014 but the £83m raised from six departures was distorted by Luis Suarez’s £75million sale to Barcelona.
