Crystal Palace have reportedly ended their interest in Mamadou Sakho after baulking at Liverpool’s £30million asking price for the defender.
New Eagles boss Frank de Boer is said to be confident that he can bring in up to five players for what it would cost to land the France defender, as he prepares for his first season in charge of a Premier League club.
Palace were initially confident that they could turn last season’s loan switch into a permanent one for the 27-year-old, but Liverpool are refusing to drop their valuation of the player who is currently recovering from a knee ligament injury.
De Boer is now said to be casting his eye Holland defenders Joel Veltman and Kenny Tete, who he worked with during his time in charge at Ajax, with the pair likely to cost just over £10million, according to the report in The Guardian.
Palace need to bring in fresh faces to strengthen the squad after allowing Fraizer Campbell, Joe Ledley, Mathieu Flamini, Jonathan Benteke and Zeki Fryers to move on this summer.
However, it would now seem certain that Liverpool star Sakho will not be returning to Selhurst Park and he could now stay and fight for his place at Anfield.
