Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Inaki Williams after the forward extended his Athletic Bilbao contract until 2021.
Jurgen Klopp is understood to be keeping a close eye on Williams, who has burst onto the scene this season with 10 goals this season.
Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the 21-year-old, who had a €20million release clause.
However, as part of his new contract, the release clause has now been increased to a whopping €50million, roughly £38million.
Williams has mainly been deployed on the wing by Bilbao this season, but plays as a central striker for Spain Under-21’s, for whom he has made four appearances.
Reds boss Klopp wants to bring a new striker to Anfield, with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings all currently injured and Christian Benteke appearing out of favour under the German.
Reports on Thursday suggested the former Borussia Dortmund boss hoped to persuade Robert Lewandowski to leave Bayern Munich, but the Polish international insists he is not interested in a move to the Premier League.
