Liverpool attempted to buy Luke Shaw from Manchester United earlier this summer, according to reports.
Writing in The Sun, chief football writer Neil Ashton claims that Jurgen Klopp was so desperate for a left-back that he approached United over Shaw.
The failure to sign Shaw meant that Klopp moved on to Andrew Robertson, who he eventually signed from Hull City.
No player has moved between the two clubs since 1964, so it would have been a huge deal had Liverpool landed him.
Unsurprisingly, United refused to countenance selling Shaw to their rivals. Jose Mourinho wants to keep Shaw at the club, despite his first-team place being vulnerable.
There is a big Luke Shaw shaped hole down our left hand side. Crying out for him to make that position his own.
