Liverpool face Stoke on Tuesday night

Liverpool have doubts over Nathaniel Clyne, while Stoke will be without Ryan Shawcross for the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

The Reds go into the game protecting a 1-0 lead handed to them by Jordon Ibe during the first left at the Britannia Stadium a fortnight ago.

Nathaniel Clyne: Fitness doubt for Liverpool

Right-back Nathaniel Clyne is a doubt for Liverpool.

The England international missed training with a knock on his knee and, if he cannot recover in time, Jon Flanagan is set for his first start since May 2014 after two knee operations.

Centre-back Dejan Lovren has returned to training but is not yet ready to start, while on-loan Steven Caulker is ineligible.

Adam Lallana will hope his matchwinning efforts at Norwich on Saturday will be enough to earn him a return to the starting line-up.

Boss Jurgen Klopp must decide whether to continue playing Roberto Firmino in his ‘false 9 role’ or hand a rare start to striker Christian Benteke, who has been forced to take a regular place on the bench in recent weeks.

Ryan Shawcross: One of the Premier League's best?

Stoke will be missing skipper Ryan Shawcross, with the defender set to be sidelined for up to a month by the back injury he sustained at Leicester on Saturday.

Marko Arnautovic, who has been carrying a hamstring problem, was not part the squad at the weekend and fellow forward Bojan Krkic was an unused substitute, but both are expected to return to the starting line-up for a game the Potters head into trailing 1-0 from the first leg.

Geoff Cameron (ankle) remains sidelined but may be in contention for Saturday’s FA Cup game at Crystal Palace.
