Liverpool v Swansea ratings: Klavan & Lovren dire; Carroll great
Ragnar Klavan was the worst player on the pitch as Liverpool’s defence crumbled in the second half of a 3-2 loss to Swansea at Anfield.
Liverpool ratings
Simon Mignolet: Little to do apart from the three goals but hard to blame the Belgium for any of them. Might have done better to set himself for Swansea’s second. 5
Nathaniel Clyne: Failed to close down Martin Olsson quick enough before Olsson fed Tom Carroll for Fernando Llorente’s second goal. The usually reliable Clyne had a game to forget as he was out of position on a few occasions and offered very little going forward. 4
Ragnar Klavan: Catastrophic display. Lost Llorente for his second goal although it was a superb header from the Spaniard. Might have been lucky to stay on the pitch after Kevin Friend decided not to give him a second yellow for a challenge on Llorente. Weak clearance into the path of Glyfi Sigurdsson for the midfielder to score Swansea’s third. 3
Dejan Lovren: Failed to win a header against Fernandez that led to Swansea’s opener. Better in the opposition’s box than defending in his own. 5
James Milner: Lovely ball from the left for Roberto Firmino’s goal. Provided much-needed attacking spark on the left. Can’t be blamed solely for any of the goals, although he was part of a defense that conceded three. 6
Georginio Wijnaldum: Made a lovely run for Liverpool’s second goal before knocking it round one player and setting up Firmino with a wonderful cross. Needs to improve final ball. 6
Jordan Henderson: Really poor passing in the first half from the 26-year-old, however he recovered in the last half an hour to keep Liverpool’s attacks ticking over. Guilty of a silly foul late on. 5
Emre Can: Really poor performance from the German. Wasted a couple of chances, mis-placed passes galore and failed to close down Swansea players fast enough. Taken off with 20 minutes to go. 4
Adam Lallana: Could have done better in the first half with a chance created by Roberto Firmino, only to send his acrobatic kick miles over the bar. A lot of the Reds’ good play in the second half went through Lallana. 6
Roberto Firmino: Played far too narrow in the first half. Took his first goal well with a fantastic header at the back post. His second was simply exquisute – incredible chest control and volley into the bottom left-hand corner. 8
Philippe Coutinho: Showed his usual class with some nice touches and intelligent play, but was forced too deep at times. Taken off to give Liverpool more bite up top. 6
Substitutes
Daniel Sturridge (came on for Coutinho 57′) Stayed on the last man’s shoulder and offered very little. Decent pull-back for Lallana late on. 5
Divock Origi (came on for Can 70′) Went more direct when the Belgian striker came on but had minimal impact. One shot and turned easily saved. 6
Joel Matip (came on for Wijnaldum 90+4′) Came on up front. Little time to influence the match. 5
