Liverpool have had a reported £28m bid for Mohamed Salah rejected by Roma with the Italian club looking for closer to £40m for the ex-Chelsea winger.

Salah is very much seen as a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s system at Liverpool and despite his failure at Chelsea there have been signs in Italy that the 24-year-old has improved his game significantly.

The Egypt international scored 19 goals in 41 appearances this season but is said to be in favour of a return to the Premier League this summer, according to the report in the Daily Mail.

The Reds are expected to return to Roma with a second bid, while other targets for Klopp continue to be Southampton star Virgil van Dijk, Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita and Arsenal’s versatile midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
