Samuel Umtiti says it is “flattering” to be watched by Tottenham – but the Lyon defender feels he is best suited to Spanish football.
Mauricio Pochettino revealed last week that Spurs scouts had been tracking the progress of Umtiti this season.
“Umtiti is one of the players that our recruitment department is following,” Pochettino told RMC. “He has interesting potential.”
Umtiti has responded positively to Pochettino’s comments but hinted he has his heart set on a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“It is flattering that Pochettino is interested in me, he is a manager that I like and his team is performing well,” Umtiti told Telefoot.
“I want to finish this season well, that is my priority.”
The 22-year-old added of his preference should he leave Lyon: “I watch all the leagues but I think that the Spanish league suits me the best, in terms of my qualities.
“I like Barcelona as much as I like Real.”
