Manchester City are reportedly monitoring the progress of Atletico Madrid brothers Lucas and Theo Hernandez ahead of a £40million raid this summer.
The Sun claims that City chief Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the defensive duo and has been keeping tabs on the pair for the last six months, with a view to triggering their release clauses.
France Under-21 international Lucas, 20, plays at centre-back and has made 17 senior appearances for Atletico, while left-back Theo, 19, is currently on loan at Copa Del Rey finalists Alaves where he has played 16 times.
Both players signed new contracts with the Spanish giants at the start of last season but that won’t stop City in their bid to snap up two of Europe’s top defensive prospects.
A City insider said: “Pep remains hot on the trail of the pair. He is a big fan of them and has been keeping an eye out.
“There was interest last summer. Pep has sent his best man to have a closer look at them.
“There is a feeling that Atletico reckon they could use this as leverage should Kun [Aguero] decide to leave at the end of the season.”
