Manchester United have laughed off any suggestions that they could sell midfielder Ander Herrera to Barcelona this summer.
The Spain international was outstanding for the Red Devils as they finished with three trophies this season but is out of contract next summer.
That, allied to the fact that his former coach at Athletic Bilbao, Ernesto Valverde, is expected to be named as Barca’s new boss on Monday, led to strong rumours that the 27-year-old could return to Spain.
United sources have, however, confirmed that there has been no official approach for the player, according to a report in The Independent.
Jose Mourinho has been hugely impressed with Herrera’s attitude and work-rate since his own arrival at the club last summer and is ready to offer the Spaniard a bumper new deal to keep him at Old Trafford.
Mourinho is also expected to splash £200million on new talent this summer but is happy with a midfield duo of Herrera and the improving Paul Pogba, although he will try and bring in a strong holding midfielder to allow the latter to have more of an attacking role next season.
