Manchester United are reportedly planning to muscle their way to a move for Liverpool’s top transfer target Virgil van Dijk this summer.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen the heart of his defence this summer and the Southampton star is his first choice to do just that.
It is common knowledge that the 25-year-old Dutchman will leave St Mary’s this summer, with Saints wanting at least £50million for their star player, but United appear to have put a spanner in the works as far as Liverpool are concerned.
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol claims that van Dijk is on a three-man shortlist of targets that Jose Mourinho has handed to United’s hierachy, with the Red Devils reportedly ready to shell out £300m on new players this summer.
The news will come as a bitter blow to Klopp but not to Southampton, who can now expect a potential bidding war for a player they signed for £13m just under two years ago.
