Antonio Rudiger: Interest hotting up

Manchester United are reportedly ready to go to war with Chelsea over Roma and Germany international defender Antonio Rudiger.

According to the Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho is planning a major defensive overhaul with Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian all moving on to make way for some fresh faces.

The Red Devils have conceded the second-most goals of any club in the top 10 of the Premier League this season and, with Eric Bailly ruled out for two months, it leaves Mourinho with a defensive crisis as he also does not have complete faith in the likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw.

Improving the defence with be Mourinho’s major task in the January transfer window and has identified Chelsea target Rudiger, regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe, now that the 23-year-old has recovered from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
