Let’s go ‘all out attack’
@unitedmatas – at the risk of giving redblood and hatters more fuel for paranoia, i haven’t seen united play in the united way since 2008, irrespective of results.
i do however see players in rashford and martial that have incredible talent. just a shame they operate from the same side.
i dont think we have the players that can set up defensively and soak up the pressure. city will just keep coming at us in waves.
i think what would give us the best shout would be going all out attack and immediately pressuring them and closing them down when they have the ball. i’d say man mark kevin but then do we have to do the same with silva? and then what about aguero/jesus (still dont get why he doesnt play them together anymore)? i hope we sign griezman in january, or dybala the young lad from inter would be perhaps even better.
sign jose’s come in we are getting there. i do hope news of shaw’s fitness is true and that jose gives him a chance because he really was someone, before he was injured, that could run at defences much like neville did from the right for so many years

‘We can’t park the bus at OT’
We need to soak up the pressure and play on the counter. We can’t just park the bus especially at OT.
I’d go with a back 3.
de Gea
Lindelof, Smalling, Rojo
Valencia ,Herrera, Matic, Young
Lingard Martial
Lukaku
Soak it up and break with pace. We just can’t afford to let them play the passes through to Sane and Sterling for them to just slide rule pass it across our 6 yard box to Aguero or Jesus. Stop their supply and you stop them scoring.

Second half got United out of jail
The best teams can allow themselves to play certain matches without being 100% focused. We, however, are not such a team as shown in Basel when we should have blown the opposition away but didn’t due to a lack of concentration and probably a bit of complacency because we were virtually through anyway.
Tonight looked to be a repeat of that after a first half where we didn’t take our chances and got punished. Thankfully, we approached the second half with more determination and focus and then CSKA couldn’t live with us.
It wasn’t a breathtaking performance but it was important to keep our momentum and get Lukaku and Rashford on the scoresheet as well.

Pogba was ‘sublime’ against CSKA
Agree with everyone’s insights here on Pogba, he was simply sublime yesterday – oozing quality. He will be a massive miss on Sunday but I am certain Mourinho already had a plan to play City without him devised last Sunday.
Spot on jm1502. Lukaku was very good yesterday, great performance all-round, if we can pick him out against City like Pogba did for his goal last night I strongly doubt Otamendi or Stones could deal with him. Lindelof continues his fine form since he made that crunching tackle against Brighton and Mata seemed to have a bit of his touch back as well.
All round this was a very controlled performance. Much like how a top class sprinter runs at 80% in the heats – we did enough without breaking a sweat.

Only saw the 2nd half and wasn’t overly impressed – we were very lax in our attacking and I didn’t see much to make me think we are going to go into Sunday full of belief and hunger without Pogba.
The positives were obviously Luke Shaw returning and his performance as well as Lukaku and Rashford getting goals which both desperately need.
Hopefully lady luck with smile on us and we avoid Bayern, Juventus and Real Madrid in the draw on Monday.
Roll on Super Sunday!

Pogba will be ‘sorely missed’
Pogba is still far from the finished article, beautiful lay-off for the goal but his passing completion was only 81%, admittedly some of that is probably because he tries things that don’t necessarily come off.
Having said all that, he’s still our best central midfielder by a long long way and will be sorely missed in the derby.

‘Remarkable’ performance from Shaw
When you consider how badly he’s been treated by Mourinho, how long he’s been kept out of the squad on match days and how his confidence must be absolutely shot to bits – it is quite remarkable how well he played last night in his first start of the season.
Apparently he’s now the fittest player at the club and he looked sharp and fast last night.
He’s been questioned at times about his attitude but that right there is pure determination and it was great to see him back.
He’s clearly the best left back at the club – come on Jose, don’t cut your nose off to spite your face. If you’d have bled him back into the team a few weeks ago then we might actually feel comfortable going into the derby on Sunday knowing we’ve got a solid left back in form.

Young over Shaw
Shaw definitely played well yesterday however I’d still go with Young – he’s been on top form in recent weeks and I think will suit a compact United defence (which is what I imagine Mourinho will play with on Sunday) more.Shaw can get game time after the derby and start building up to get back into the team but the derby on Sunday is way too close.

Loan talk ‘scared’ Shaw
It was a great performance to be fair and he’s definitely put his hand up to be noticed.
He needs to keep his levels up, it’s clear now that ability is not enough at United, he’s GOT to back it up with hard work which, in fairness, he seems to be doing.
I think maybe talk of being shipped out to Newcastle on loan in January scared him, I mean I’d be scared if I was told I might be loaned out to Newcastle as well#

I would play 5 in midfield with Young joining Matic,Herrera,Fellaini, and Martial in midfield 5 with Lukaku upfront.I would love to see Shaw getting his confidence back, cos that is the only thing lacking in the boy!
Ship Blind and Darmian out in January if you[Jose] think/believe Shaw can make it back to his previous[ fantastic] form.

‘Luke Shaw is not ready to play for this football club’
If Spurs are willing to give us Rose for Shaw and some change I would bite my hand off. Luke Shaw is not ready to play for this football club.
It’s fair enough that he had a few nice attacking runs but he was knackered by the 55th minute and everyone seems to ignore the fact that his amateurish positioning was what caused the goal.
He’s been fit for 2 months and can’t get in the team. I’m not buying this “Jose is treating him badly” narrative. I think he’s just unfocused and a bit rubbish.
hatters
@hatters, maybe so but that was his first game of the season and it always takes a while to get accustomed to the pace, everything. Shaw is potentially, note I’ve said potentially, a top player and, as stated, should be given time or sold.
He had no pre-season and hasn’t played since last season so he’s obviously going to struggle to make 90 mins in a match that CSKA had to get a result in so they were going to press and work hard.
killyboye
@killeboye. I don’t buy that mate. He’s appeared sporadically in the reserves and u23s – looked rubbish there as well.
I think he’s had his chance and we as a club need this position sorted out if we don’t want to be left in Manchester City’s dust. No time to wait for his potential I’m afraid.
Not only that but I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that Pochettino, van Gaal, and Mourinho have all felt the need to criticize him publicly for his unprofessionalism. The player is the common denominator across three different managers.
I just feel like fans give him a lot of unnecessary slack when it’s clear he isn’t cutting it. If he isn’t sold then he must at least go out on loan.

Herrera is ‘not good enough’
We need another creative or all round central midfielder, we cannot rely on Pogba / Matic all season. It needs to be somebody who can cover when one of them is injured and take Lingard’s position when fit.
I don’t think Herrera is good enough.

Lucas Moura the man
Lucas Moura is exactly the type of player we need – a right footed right winger willing to run at defenders and get crosses in for our big forwards. His lack of consistency is because he has never been given a proper run in the side for ages now, and it’s not for lack of talent but rather because PSG have one of the best attacking trio’s (as well as backups) in world football right now.
Besides him, can anyone name a right-footed right winger who is available to come in? Lemar possibly from Monaco possibly but he still prefers the left wing and is a predominantly left footed player (although still more than capable with his right). Other than that it’s all about left-footed players cutting in from the right which is something that we really don’t need with Mata and Mhkitaryan already in that mould at the moment.

Barbosa has bombed
I thought last year Gabriel Barbosa would be one we would be looking at, but after moving to inter then getting loaned out to benfica he has done nothing of note this season!
Also have kept a look in at Breel Embolo who also has done not a lot over the last year!
I would like to see 2 wingbacks and a top class midfielder in the summer,
Would be happy with a Moura signing in Jan aswell, wish we had signed him a few years ago though

‘I wouldn’t be rushing to buy Moura’
Embolo is just back after a year out with a very serious knee injury.
I wouldn’t be rushing to buy Moura either, he has struggled to make the team in PSG since day 1. He’s obviously not as good as people thought he was going to be.
There’d be a lot of European teams in for him if he was good enough but it seems no-one has made a concrete offer. Just because he’s fast and right footed doesn’t mean he’ll solve our problems.
