Man Utd handed boost as €35m target admits uncertain future

Reported Manchester United target Joao Cancelo has spoken out about his future amid links with a permanent switch to Inter.

The Portuguese full-back joined Inter on loan from Valencia this season, with a €35million clause inserted should the Serie A side wish to make the deal permanent.

However, despite qualifying for the Champions League in dramatic fashion on Sunday night, Inter’s Financial Fair Play issues mean they may not be able to pay the fee.

When asked about his future, Cancelo insisted where he plays next season is not in his hands.

“The squad is amazing: wonderful players, splendid people. We’ve achieved our goal after hard work,” he said to Premium Sport.

“My staying doesn’t depend on me, but from the clubs. I’m proud to have been a part of this wonderful group.”

Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio admitted that qualification for the Champions League does not fix their budget issues.

Joao Cancelo: Linked with move to Man Utd

“Cancelo and Rafinha have made an important contribution but we have to make economic evaluations,” he told reporters.

“The Champions League will give us a hand, but it does not solve the problems of this budget: financial fair play requires us to make capital gains. It will not be easy because the other clubs do not offer discounts, but we are looking for solutions and are always confident “.
