Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba were the stars of the show as Manchester United defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final in Spain.

Manchester United

Sergio Romero: Not too much to do for most of the match but pulled off a wonderful fingertip save from Pione Sisto on the hour mark. Showed good hands to collect set-pieces. 7

Antonio Valencia: Great pressure on the Celta Vigo players when out of possession. Provided a dangerous attacking outlet on the right as usual. 7.5

Eric Bailly: Missed a header early on to give Daniel Wass a good opportunity to score. Good positioning to cut out a number of dangerous Celta Vigo attacks. 7

Daley Blind: Had a solid night at the back, winning most of his headers and sweeping up a number of times. 7.5

Matteo Darmian: Showed his versatility time and again in recent weeks and was good at left-back on Thursday. Could have provided more going forward for the Premier League side but defensively sound. 7

Marouane Fellaini: Neat and tidy when in possession and defensively. Ineffective further up the field – touch let him down on a few occasions. 6.5

Ander Herrera: Swept up in front of the defence and kept Manchester United ticking over. Some of his well-timed tackles meant United could build attacks quickly. 7

Paul Pogba: Made a number of eye-catching powerful runs from midfield to the edge of Celta Vigo’s box. A lovely touch and burst from him ended with Henrikh Mkhitaryan missing the best chance of the first half. Showed a lovely variation of passing and always available for his side. An impressive display from the Frenchman. 8.5

Jesse Lingard: Foiled by a terrific Sergio Alvarez save from close range, could maybe have done better with the finish. His runs caused problems at the back for Celta Vigo. 7

Marcus Rashford: Excellent curling shot from edge of the area forced Celta keeper into a brilliant save part-way through the first half. His pace caused more problems for Celta in the second half but his final ball was lacking. Won and scored stunning free-kick to give United victory. 8

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Probably the Red Devil’s most creative player in the first half, slipping Rashford through and putting dangerous balls into the final third. Missed a great chance in the first period when Pogba threaded him through. 7

Ashley Young (came on for Mkhitaryan 78′) Made an important defensive challenge late on. Lasted 10 minutes before he came off injured. 7

Anthony Martial (came on for Rashford 79′) Helped take pressure off United and run down the clock. 6

Chris Smalling (came on for Young 89′) Helped keep a clean sheet in injury time. 6
