Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to watch Abdoulaye Doucoure over the weekend as they mull over making a summer bid for the Watford midfielder.

The Daily Star claim exclusively that Doucoure is on the summer shopping list of Jose Mourinho, and the report rates the 25-year-old in the £40million bracket.

As per the report, United have been tracking the midfielder enforcer this season and watched him in action against West Brom at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The former Rennes star, who cost Watford £8million in 2016, is under contract until 2020 but the Hornets are trying to tie him down to a new £60,000-a-week deal to ward off any interest from potential suitors.

He has been mightily impressive for Watford, scoring seven goals and creating three assists in 30 games.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino recently watched the Frenchman in action as the Hornets recently thumped Chelsea 4-1 and they are also interested in the player, as well as Liverpool.

United though are said to be preparing to make a June offer for Doucoure, who at 1.83m (6ft) tall certainly fits the Mourinho mould. The Portuguese boss is looking to add two central midfielders to his squad with Michael Carrick retiring and Marouane Fellaini likely to leave on a free.
